Learn More About Our Residential Treatment Center

by | Dec 9, 2022

As our team at Zia Recovery Center helps clients through their journey and recovery from alcohol and substance abuse, the first part of the process is known as withdrawal or detox. We treat this often-difficult stage in the recovery process with what we refer to as “Ambulatory Withdrawal Management,” where we provide the client with a comfortable and completely safe environment for them to go through detox. Our team aims to make this harsh introduction to recovery as relaxing and easy as possible. We highly encourage you to contact us if you have any questions about Ambulatory Withdrawal Management after reading this.

What is Withdrawal?

Withdrawal, also known as detoxification or detox, is the first step in quitting or cutting back on alcohol or drugs. During this process, a person can experience a variety of uncomfortable side effects to these substances leaving the body. The client’s mind and body have been accustomed to the sensation of the abused substance to feel any sense of normalcy, which is the big problem with addiction and what makes detox so uncomfortable. The withdrawal symptoms a person experiences can depend on a variety of factors including how that substance has been used, what the substance is, the age of the person, and their physical health.

Common symptoms of withdrawal include cravings, restlessness, agitation, tremors, tiredness, anxiety, and poor or decreased sleep. In a general and simplified sense, withdrawal from a substance feels the opposite of whatever sensation the drug would provide. A person may go through many symptoms or very few. Whatever the case, we know that the detox stage of recovery is never easy.  We commend those willing to go through this difficult first step toward recovery, and we provide the same high level of support in the stages that follow

What Zia Recovery Center Does to Help

At Zia Recovery Center, we provide the most comfortable environment for our patients to go through withdrawal. “Ambulatory” refers to the ability of the patient to walk around and not be bedridden during detox. We do not keep our patients bedridden as they go through these difficult symptoms and experience detoxing.

Within our safe and comfortable withdrawal environment, we provide healthy and delicious meals on-site prepared by our amazing chef. Patients are also provided some nutritious snacks to enjoy throughout the day. Our experienced and caring staff is there for our clients every step of the way and helps them with whatever they may need. A custom withdrawal management regimen is created to ensure an improved withdrawal process. Medical management and daily assessments are also provided.
