Residential Addiction Treatment FAQ's

What is residential treatment in addiction recovery?

Residential treatment is an inpatient program where clients live on-site and receive structured support, including group therapy, individual counseling, case management, and daily 12-step meetings. At Zia Recovery Center, this stage helps clients build recovery skills, develop accountability, and transition safely from detox into ongoing care.

Who is residential treatment for?

Residential treatment is recommended for individuals who need structured support after detox, including those with moderate to severe substance use disorders or those who benefit from immersive therapy and consistent accountability during early recovery.

Does Zia Recovery Center offer both inpatient and outpatient programs?

Yes! We offer a structured “step-down” approach that begins with Inpatient Residential Treatment and transitions into Intensive Outpatient (IOP) and standard Outpatient (OP) care as you gain stability and independence.

How does residential treatment differ from withdrawal management?

Withdrawal management focuses on stabilizing the body and mind while an individual detoxes from drugs and/or alcohol, while residential treatment provides a longer-term structured environment with daily therapy, skill-building activities, and supportive housing to reinforce recovery and prevent relapse.

What therapies and activities are included in residential treatment?

Clients participate in a combination of individual and group therapy, life skills groups, outdoor activities, daily 12-step meetings, and weekend outings. This structured programming supports both the emotional and behavioral aspects of substance use disorder treatment.

Can I begin services at any point in your program?

Placement is determined by a clinical assessment. While many clients begin with detox or residential care, we meet you where you are. Depending on your current needs and history, you may be eligible to enter directly into our PHP or IOP levels of care.

Can residential treatment help with both alcohol and drug addiction?

Yes. Zia Recovery Center’s residential program treats a wide range of substance use disorders, including alcohol, opioids, stimulants, and prescription medications, with therapy and recovery planning tailored to each client’s needs.

What happens after completing residential treatment?

After completing residential treatment, clients may transition into intensive outpatient programs (IOP) or outpatient addiction care. This step-down level allows clients to continue therapy, practice independence, and maintain recovery while reintegrating into daily life.
